Yes, Edge has real, widespread video streaming problems

Users across multiple Microsoft forums have reported that Edge streaming has been problematic for months — describing pixelated, buffering, and frame-skipping playback — with Firefox performing correctly on the same machines and connections. This strongly implicates Edge itself, not network or hardware conditions.

A March 2025 Edge update appears to have worsened matters significantly, with users reporting video stuttering and stalls starting right after that release, including in Microsoft's own ClipChamp product.

The two main culprits identified

Disable Hardware Acceleration:
  • Open Edge and type edge://settings/system into the address bar.
  • Turn off "Use hardware acceleration when available".
  • Restart the browser.
Disable QUIC Protocol:
  • Type edge://flags/ into the address bar.
  • Search for "QUIC".
  • Set "Experimental QUIC protocol" to Disabled.
  • Restart Edge for changes to take effect.

Note: If problems persist, try using Edge's "InPrivate" mode or switching to Google Chrome or Firefox.

Possible causes: Slow or unstable internet, or too many devices using the same network.

  • Check your speed (minimum 5 Mbps, 10+ Mbps recommended)
  • Move closer to your router or use a wired connection
  • Close other apps/devices using the internet

  • Manually increase quality (if settings available)

Possible causes: The event has not started, or login issues.

  • Confirm event start time
